Look Inside
Overview
At sixteen, I built a compiler-style system from the ground up because using programming languages was no longer enough. I wanted to understand how source code gets tokenized, parsed, validated, interpreted, and transformed into working output.
What It Delivers
- Lexical analysis that breaks source code into tokens.
- Parsing logic that validates grammar and program structure.
- Syntax checks for invalid patterns and malformed statements.
- Semantic handling for meaning, compatibility, and program logic.
- Internal representations for processing the source cleanly.
- Output generation or execution logic capable of producing working results.
- Testing against valid programs, invalid syntax, and edge cases.
What I Did
- Designed and implemented the compiler architecture independently.
- Built the lexer, parser, validation logic, semantic layer, internal processing model, and output stage.
- Defined the grammar and error behaviour.
- Tested the system systematically across successful and unsuccessful inputs.
- Used the project to extend classroom theory into a complete working system.
Outcomes
- A practical understanding of how high-level source becomes executable behaviour.
- Strong foundations in formal grammar, tokenization, parsing, language design, error handling, and system decomposition.
- Experience reasoning about programs as structured language rather than isolated instructions.
Proven Impact
- Completed independently at age sixteen.
- Built a working compiler-style pipeline rather than a single-purpose script.
- Demonstrated early capacity to design a complex technical system without external dependency.
Why It Matters
- Most programmers learn how to write code. This project focused on how code itself is read and understood.
- It strengthened the low-level systems thinking later applied to automation architecture and data pipelines.
- It remains one of the clearest records of my early technical independence.
Building the compiler shifted the abstraction boundary. Programming languages became systems whose rules, parsing, behaviour, and implementation I could inspect and rebuild.
